“The music program at Hyles-Anderson College encourages and motivates every musician to strive for perfection and the achievement of excellence. I love the music program because it challenges me to become a more proficient Christian musician in a setting of solid Christ-honoring music.
Lifting high the name of Jesus through music is a primary concern of the Hyles-Anderson College Music Department. Students are trained to sing or play to bring glory to the Lord through the lyrics, the music, and the presentation of the song. Hyles-Anderson College offers many opportunities for the music students to participate in a wide variety of areas while receiving a first-class education in the process. No matter what the ability of the musicians, Hyles-Anderson College has opportunities available to them.
The music program at Hyles-Anderson College offers intense one-on-one voice, piano, or instrumental lessons for intermediate or advanced students; or for the beginner, small classroom sizes allow for a high teacher to student ratio. The Piano Lab and private practice rooms give the students enrolled in these areas a place to practice their music with up-to-date digital and/or acoustic pianos.
In the classroom, faculty members teach the students in many topics including philosophy of music, music theory on all levels, music directing, choral directing, and orchestration. Upperclass music students will learn how to write their own music and publish music using the computer program Finale. By the time a music student graduates, he or she will have received a high level education in the music field, performed in many different public venues, participated in a music recital, had the opportunity to participate in annual music trips and recordings, and much more.
All music students participate in a performance group. The many choirs and ensembles of Hyles-Anderson College perform in daily chapel services, conferences, and at First Baptist Church several times each year. The college orchestra plays every day in chapel as well as accompanying special numbers both at the college and at the church. All instrumentalists will also have the opportunity to audition for the First Baptist Church orchestra.
The Hyles-Anderson College Music Department offers a well-rounded, and Biblical approach to church and school music. Each music student will graduate not only having seen it done, but also having had a part in getting the job done.
