Spirit Week

It has become a tradition at Hyles-Anderson College for the third week of school to be deemed Spirit Week. Each year we divide up the student body by class: Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Each team is assigned a color and a team captain. Throughout the week, there are a variety of games and competitions where the teams earn points to win "bragging rights" on campus for the remainder of the school year.

Each morning began with an assembly in the DeCoster Gymnasium. This year Dr. Pete Cowling began each day with a devotional from God’s Word. After devotions, the games began. Our Program Director, Bro. Anthony Collins, and his team planned team games and competitions that ranged from mattress relays to three-point competitions to tube pulls and canoe races. The games were played all around the campus, and everyone got involved. After game time each morning, the entire student body assembled in the Evans Auditorium for daily chapel services. The students sat by team and participated in chapel competitions, music competitions, cheers, and mascot competitions. At the end of the week, the team with the most points was declared the winner. This year Bro. Sammy Roberson and the freshmen class squeaked past the seniors by only two thousand points to be crowned the Spirit Week 2015 Champions.

College Days

The last week of September is our annual Fall College Days event. Young people from twelve states came to Hyles-Anderson College to spend three days on our campus. Delegates have the opportunity to stay in the residence halls, attend classes, participate in chapel, eat in the dining hall, and go on an activity to Chicago. College Days is an excellent way for a young person considering Bible college to see what life at Hyles-Anderson College is really like. We have College Days twice a year. Our next event is planned for April 6-8, 2016. You can may obtain information and register on our website.

Homecoming Bible Conference

As soon as College Days concluded, it was time for our annual Homecoming Bible Conference. This year’s conference was tremendous! We had the opportunity to hear Missionary Kevin Wynne, Pastor Jack Trieber, Pastor Rick Finley, Pastor Mike Norris, Pastor Steve Hobbins, and Pastor Maury Gibson. The evening sessions were held in the Jack Hyles Memorial Auditorium and included powerful preaching, amazing testimonies, and soul-stirring music.

The morning sessions were held on the Hyles-Anderson College campus and included split sessions for teens, men, and ladies. Each morning was punctuated by a combined session in the Evans Auditorium.

One of the highlights of the Homecoming Bible Conference is our Alumni and Friends Fellowship that is held on Wednesday afternoon. It is always such a joy to get to welcome home so many alumni and friends from across America. We enjoyed a delicious meal and a great time of fellowship. Pastor Wilkerson gave a report of the “State of the College” and shared his heart for the future of Hyles-Anderson College. We encourage all of our alumni and friends to make plans now to attend this annual meeting next October. You will be glad you did.

Harvest Fest

The 32nd annual Harvest Fest will be held on Saturday, October 17. This year’s event will include hayrides, bonfires, corn roast, games, rides, delicious food, flea market, fall portraits, and an old-fashioned Gospel sing-along featuring the Kevin Walker Family. You are welcome to join us if you live in the area!

We held our first Alumni and Friends Fellowship for the year at First Baptist Church of Rosemount, Minnesota, on September 21, 2015. Pastor David Clear hosted the event. There were approximately seventy-five alumni and friends in attendance. We enjoyed a delicious meal of baked chicken, buttered potatoes, tossed salad, and a variety of five tantalizing, assorted layer cakes. The room was beautifully decorated in the colors of Hyles-Anderson College. It was a refreshing time of fellowship with former alumni and friends.

We enjoyed the largest Alumni and Friends Fellowship of the year in conjunction with our Homecoming Bible Conference. It is such a joy to welcome so many alumni and friends to the Hyles-Anderson College campus for this annual meeting. There were alumni present who graduated as early as 1974 and as recently as 2015. We heard an update from Pastor Wilkerson as well as greetings from Dr. Stuart Mason, Dr. Wendell Evans, and Dr. Ray Young. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with many long-time friends.

On October 30, we will be in Dothan, Alabama, at the Crossroads Baptist Church. Pastor Doug MacCormack is hosting this event. If you live in the panhandle of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, or surrounding areas, please join us for this time of fellowship in Dothan.

We also have an Alumni and Friends Fellowship scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2015, at South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, Tennessee. Pastor Frank Gagliano will be hosting this event. More information will be included in the November edition of the Connection.
