The Hyles-Anderson Connection

The "Stats" Edition

Spring Semester

The spring semester is off to a great start. We are excited to have several brand-new students join us this semester and we welcome back returning students who have been out for one reason or another. The spirit on our campus this spring is tremendous!

Chapel is the heartbeat of Hyles-Anderson College. This spring we have altered the order of service in our chapel services to allow more singing and this has really encouraged the atmosphere. After spirit-lifting congregational singing, we have special music and a powerful sermon from God’s word. Men of God preaching the King James Bible is the focal point of every chapel service and the entire program is built around the preaching. This semester we have already had the opportunity to hear from several guest chapel speakers, with more to come. You can see a full listing of all of our guest chapel speakers on our events calendar.

Music Department

Together, the Music Department and the Summer Tour Department together are producing three new music projects this month. We are excited about a new patriotic CD entitled “Let Freedom Ring” that will feature twelve songs from a variety of groups from the past and present at Hyles-Anderson College. This album will include songs like “I Love This Land,” “Hero for Today,” “It Has Always Been the Soldier,” “Let Freedom Ring” and many others.

The Music Department has teamed up with Bro. Byron Foxx and Bible Truth Music to produce a men’s quartet recording featuring the Hylander Singing Men. This album is entitled Stand Strong and pays tribute to the old-fashioned days of Gospel quartet singing – just four male voices and the piano. This new CD includes songs like “Satisfied,” “I Believe,” “Stand Strong,” “I Always Have a Song to Sing” and several other favorites.

CD Recording

The last week of February we will record our annual CD that includes all four of our tour groups, the Hylander Chorale, Ladies’ Ensemble, Echoes of Grace, and Concert Choir. This new recording will be entitled “Let Us Sing” and will include twelve fully-orchestrated songs that provide a complete representation of the Music Department at Hyles-Anderson College.

All Hyles-Anderson College recordings are available for purchase through our music store. You can also order hard copies of our most current projects by contacting the campus Bookstore at store@hylesanderson.edu or by calling 219.365.4031 extension 1284.

Hylander Athletics

The spring athletic schedule is in full swing with both men’s Hylander Basketball and ladies’ Hylander Volleyball. The volleyball league is a new addition to the Athletics Department this year and is a hit with all of our ladies. The basketball championship will be played on April 7 and the volleyball championship on April 23. Both championship games are open to the public and everyone is invited to join us for these special events.

Valentine Banquet

The highlight activity of the entire year is the annual Valentine Banquet. This year’s banquets will be held on February 18-20 with four different options to fit around everyone’s schedule. The banquet includes a delicious three-course meal followed by a full-length musical entitled “Love Notes.” This delightful romantic comedy centers on the Hamilton family who, through Heavenly intervention, rediscovers the true meaning of love, home, and family.  A diary dating back to the 1940’s recounts the story of a soldier and his sweetheart.  A music box reflects memories from the past, while bringing answers to the present and providing hope for the future.

Mark your calendar for a new addition to the schedule this year, a graduation Alumni and Friends Fellowship to be held on graduation day at First Baptist Church of Hammond. This will be one of the largest events of the year for our alumni and will be held in the Jack Hyles Memorial Auditorium immediately following Hyles-Anderson College graduation on May 6, 2016. All of our staff and Administration will attend this event, and we hope you can join us there also.

We hope you can participate at one of these upcoming fellowships. There is no charge to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones. You do not have to be a graduate of Hyles-Anderson College to attend, everyone is welcome. We do ask that you register so we know for how many to prepare. Each fellowship includes a delicious meal, an update from Pastor Wilkerson, and wonderful fellowship. For more information or to register to attend, please contact our Alumni Director, Bro.
